Search engine placement is very important for your business but there are better ways of achieving it than others. Here we explain how the XML Infinity server system can help you achieve good result placement as opposed to other content management systems.
Your average search engine is a fairly sophisticated piece of software. Not only does it need to understand how web pages and other documents work technically it also need to understand how links go back and forth to make associations and it needs to understand grammar and language too! No wonder Google, Yahoo and Microsoft invest millions of dollars in their search technology.
With all its sophistication though there is still one area where search engines have trouble - dynamic addressing.
Everyone who has used any product based web site has deen dynamic addressing in action. You can tell a dynamically addressed site by the web site addresses as you request a page - you'll see things like: www.somesite.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=3VHC&InMerch=1
This is really good for the developer, all they have to do is create a page called ProductView.aspx and then pass in some values to it to tell the page which data to fill it with in the database. The problem with this method is that by just looking at the web address a human or search engine cannot distinguish content between two similar pages.
Contrast this with static addressing such as: www.somesite.com/products/redwidget.html and www.somesite.com/products/bluewidget.html and you can see that humans or search engines can find out a rough idea of your content.
Now if a you type "widgets" into google both red and blue widget product pages would have a better chance of appearing than the address given above because the keyword appears in the web address.
